Itinerary

Our journey begins with a morning walk through soft sandy trails leading to the remarkable site of Tinamali. After exploring its unique landscapes, we set off towards the breathtaking Tadrart massif.

We venture into the heart of El Berdj, where striking geological formations and colorful rock layers make every step a discovery. Along the way, we encounter our first ancient rock paintings and engravings, offering a glimpse into prehistoric life.

Heading southeast, we traverse diverse terrains, surrounded by towering sandstone formations. The most imposing of them, known by the Tuareg as the “Tamezguida Cathedral,” frames the desert landscape like a natural sanctuary. Passing through this majestic arch, we continue towards the stunning Moul n’Aga dunes, whose white and golden sands create a dreamlike setting for an unforgettable sunset.

We journey to the mysterious site of Imesnegha, home to hidden caves adorned with ancient rock paintings. These Neolithic artworks connect us to the stories of prehistoric artists. Navigating through winding wadis, we arrive at the mesmerizing yellow and orange dunes of In Tehaq, a landscape of pure wonder.

We ascend through a breathtaking landscape of winding wadis, towering rock spires, and rolling dunes. Our destination is the crown jewel of Tadrart—Tin Merzouga, rising over 1,300 meters as Algeria’s highest dune. Reaching the summit, we take in a 360° panoramic view of the endless sea of dunes, glowing in shades of red and orange under the setting sun.

Today, we delve into the rich history of the region, exploring the ancient rock art of Oued In Djaren, which provides insight into the lives and beliefs of early civilizations. We leave the dunes of Tin Merzouga behind to marvel at wind-carved sandstone arches. Our journey then leads us to the fascinating Tissetteka site and the dramatic Tin Abadène Canyon, where narrow passages reveal breathtaking plays of light and color.

Our final stop is Tegharghart, home to the famous “Crying Cow” engraving, a 7,000-year-old masterpiece revered by both Tuareg nomads and archaeologists. We then head back to Djanet, the heart of Tuareg culture. A visit to the old town and local market allows us to immerse ourselves in the vibrant traditions and craftsmanship of the region. Before departure, there’s an opportunity to freshen up, and we spend our last night under the desert sky, near the airport.
